A rare Supro Super Single Model 1507 from the first year of production, 1958, in very nice original and preserved condition.
This small Valco-made instrument is as simple as an electric guitar can be: a single-cutaway body, a bolt-on short-scale neck and a single pickup with tone and volume controls and a tone switch mounted directly onto the pickguard. This “Super Single” from the late 50s is a direct descendant of the solidbody Nationals that appeared earlier in the decade in response to Fender’s productions, and which had evolved considerably in the meantime into more sophisticated creations like the Model 1104 Town and Country or Model 1105 Glenwood.
The Model 1507 was among the most basic entry-level instruments marketed by Suprol: one could acquire it in 1958 for a list price of $74.50, strap and jack cable included – and for only $12 more have a fitted chipboard case added to the lot! This was $15 less than the Ozark model, perhaps the most popular among Supro’s economic models since it has the reputation of having been the first electric instrument played by a young Jimi Hendrix… In addition to the short 22-inch scale, we find a set of gold-finished hardware, including a tailpiece with a shape identical to those used on resonator instruments, a set of Kluson Deluxe tuners, and a single-coil pickup hidden under a oversized humbucker-style cover. This assembly is complemented by a black and white sunburst finish, very much in the spirit of the 50s and monochrome televisions – an aesthetic choice that is reminiscent of a model from another manufacturer, the very high-end Les Paul Custom whose characteristics are specially designed to highlight the instrument during appearances on the small screen!
Perfectly preserved with all its original elements, we did all of the necessary work to bring this guitar back into perfect playability. After a complete setup in our workshop, it is once again set with a low action and accurate intonation, ready to play.
In its original chipboard case.
