Fender Musicmaster from 1977, in good original condition.

The Musicmaster is one of the classic starter instruments offered by Fender: introduced in 1956, it is the “student guitar” with the longest period of continuous production at the time of the manufacture of the example presented here, ahead of its sister model the Duo-Sonic and the Mustang. The instrument is as rudimentary as possible, with one single-coil pickup in the neck position combined with volume and tone controls. The Musicmaster has undergone several revisions over the decades, going from a very short 22.5-inch scale, maple neck and anodized metal pickguard in the late 1950s to the Musicmaster II in the mid-1960s, when the model would be given a more comfortable 24-inch scale, until the end of the following decade when we find this variant in a completely different aesthetic register but having retained the essence of the model as it had been established 20 years previous.

This little guitar has been somewhat roughed up but has come to us complete with all its original parts, including its varnish, Musicmaster pickup, electronics and hardware. Like all Fenders of this type, there is something particularly enjoyable about picking up an instrument without having to think too much about finding a sound – it’s simple, there is only one and it works incredibly well! We have taken care to fully set up this guitar, with a full levelling and polishing of the frets and a new bone nut made in our workshop. Ready to go!

Sold in a modern Fender gig bag.
