Superb Martin D-41 from 2007, in excellent original and preserved condition.
This richly decorated model is among the most high-end instruments produced in Nazareth – historically, the number designating the style of the instruments allows us to know the degree of elaboration of its characteristics and appointments: in the tens for simple models with a mahogany body, in the twenties and thirties for those in rosewood, and the forties for those embellished with mother-of-pearl and abalone decorations. Introduced in 1969, the D-41 style takes its place just below the iconic model that is the D-45, re-introduced to the Martin catalog the previous year after several decades of absence. As a result, it has an exceptional selection of woods: the spruce table has a straight and tight grain, and is decorated on its edge as well as that of the soundhole with mother-of-pearl purfling; the back and sides are made of Indian rosewood, elegantly cut to show the beautiful regularity of its grain; the mahogany neck has an ebony fingerboard that features the same hexagonal mother-of-pearl inlays as the 45 style; the headstock is also finely crafted, with the Martin logo inlaid vertically in mother-of-pearl.
This instrument is from a relatively recent production compared to the Martin instruments we are used to presenting, but has absolutely no reason to pale in comparison to its predecessors: a splendid appearance and the timeless sound of Martin flat-tops are there, and after having applied ourselves to optimizing the set up of this guitar it is perfect to play, with a low action and a accurate intonation.
