1978 Fender Telecaster, in very nice original and well-preserved condition.
This traditionally styled Telecaster dates from 1978, more than a decade after the onset of the Fender-CBS era. However, its features remain essentially unchanged from the pre-CBS models, while most Fenders underwent drastic changes after 1965. The original solidbody Telecaster, equipped with standard single-coil pickups, was somewhat eclipsed during this era by several new variations (Thinline, Custom, and Deluxe) featuring the wide-range humbucking pickups designed by Seth Lover, but has always maintained a loyal following to the original design launched in the early 1950s.
The example presented here features a Sunburst finish, common on 1960s Custom Telecasters but quite rare on a standard Telecaster of any era. Although this finish was officially offered by Fender in its catalog, it was relatively in low demand. The color is superbly preserved, with three perfectly distinct tones and virtually no fading of the red pigment, which is usually prone to disappear. The poly finish, typical of the ’70s, is thinner than most and allows the beautifully defined grain of the ash body to shine through. The 3-ply black pickguard gives this Sunburst Tele an elegant look typical of the period.
As mentioned previously, the elements of this guitar are very classic and in keeping with the Telecasters produced over the previous two decades: the electronics configuration, with two single-coil pickups connected to the volume and tone controls, delivers the clear, precise sound typically associated with the Telecaster; the maple neck is topped with a rosewood fingerboard, providing a subtle touch and enhancing playing comfort. This guitar remains in very good condition, complete with all its original parts. We’ve thoroughly adjusted it in our workshop, including a fret levelling and polishing, nut adjustment, and action and intonation adjustment at the bridge, ensuring perfectly comfortable playability.
Sold in its original import hardshell case.
