A superb 2001 Gibson SJ-200, in excellent original and preserved condition.
The SJ-200 holds a unique place in musical history, bridging the gap between all the different styles popular in 20th century America, from western to blues to folk to rock to country… It is unlikely that any guitar can surpass this model in terms of the singularity of its status. So it is no surprise that a host of artists have chosen the Super Jumbo 200 over its nearly 90-year history: from Ray Whitley, a singing cowboy star of 1930s western movies who first expressed to Gibson his wish for the ultimate luxury guitar (to which Gibson responded positively by offering him the world’s first Super Jumbo in late 1937), to Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Stephen Stills… to name just a few of the most prominent players!
From its introduction just before World War II to the present day, the premise of this model has been simple: offering a flat-top guitar that is as luxurious as possible, combining exquisite materials and the skills of the finest luthiers. This early-millennia example is no exception: the top is made of a beautiful, tight-grained spruce; the back, sides and neck are covered in intensely figured flamed maple; the fingerboard and signature moustache-shaped bridge with pearl inlays are made of Brazilian rosewood.
The instrument, built in the Boseman, Montana workshop, is of the same quality as the finest ever built from the decades before. This SJ-200’s dramatic aesthetic, powerful voice and light weight make it the ideal instrument for any performer requiring the ultimate stage guitar. We have applied ourselves to fully optimizing this guitar, with a complete levelling of the frets, the adjustment of the action and the intonation in order to obtain low action and accurate intonation allowing one to appreciate this exceptional instrument to the maximum of its capacities!
Sold in its original Gibson hardshell case.
