An excellent Chorus steel-string model made by Joseph Di Mauro in Paris in the 1940s.
“The sound of Tchan-Tchou Vidal” according to a discerning musician who recently played the guitar!
A beautiful pre-war instrument, the Chorus model is usually associated with Antoine Di Mauro, Joseph’s older brother. However, the former (mainly known for his models with a heart-shaped soundhole) also produced a fine collection of these so-called American-style guitars: their aesthetic characteristics are clearly reminiscent of the archtops produced across the Atlantic. In a sense, the Di Mauro Chorus can be considered a bit like a French Gibson L-50: a solid spruce top, maple back and sides, and, most importantly, instead of the typical oval or round soundhole of French jazz guitars, it features f-holes.
Completely restored for playing in our workshop, this guitar has been refretted and fitted with a new bone guiding nut. We have retained the instrument’s original bridge and fitted it with a new bone nut. The original hardware includes the trapeze tailpiece and a full set of SB tuners. All adjustments have been meticulously made to achieve a low, comfortable action and accurate intonation.
Sold in a new Boblen hardshell case.
