1996 Fender Custom Shop Telecaster “Bajo Sexto”, in very good condition.
This instrument, along with its somewhat uncommon proportions, is the descendant of an old family of musical instruments used in Northern Mexican and Texan folk music, the bajo sexto – a guitar with 6 courses of 2 strings, tuned in perfect fourths. Originally, the bajo sexto filled the role of bass and rhythmic parts in bands where the lead role was held by the accordion. Later, the emergence of bands including an electric bass allowed bajo sexto players to expand their style to melodic or soloist roles, like a normal guitar.
As stated previously, the expected tuning for the bajo sexto should be as follows: E, A, D, G, D, F. However, the present instrument was set up for use with the following alternate tuning: C, F, A#, D#, G, C – a third below a normal guitar, which opens up the lower range. All in all, a very nice instrument produced in relatively small amounts by the Fender Custom Shop, featuring the standard Telecaster single-coil pickups, a Blonde finish with a black pickguard to suit it, and a stunning piece of birdseye maple for the neck. Complete professional setup done at our workshop, in perfect playable condition.
In its original hardcase, Fender COA included.
