A rare guitar built in the 1940s by Siro Burgassi, one of the lesser-known figures of French-Italian origin luthiers based in France.

At the start of his career, Burgassi worked for Bortolo Busato’s instrument manufacture, namely building banjo necks. As a matter of fact, many other gypsy-jazz guitar luthiers started off working for Busato, among which Favino. After his stint at Busato, Burgassi set up his own guitar-making business alongside Gino Papiri. Together, they build “SG” guitars, standing for “Siro and Gino” – Django is known to have played at least one of their guitars around 1933-1934.

This guitar is characterized by a body with somewhat abnormal proportions, wider and rounded than the expected measurements of a jazz guitar – thus yielding a big, powerful sound in line with its size! Spruce top, plywood back and sides in figured mahogany, we also find the “small” Grande Bouche rosette typical of Burgassi’s work.

Very good condition, restored and set up for playing in our workshop with full refret, new string guide nut, complete setup with adjustment of the action and intonation – absolutely ready to go!

Sold in a soft case.
